Who we are

Kelly McLaughlin

The Story

Toph Restorations is owned and operated by Kelly Mclaughlin. Kelly began his career in what was then called small engine repair in northern Manitoba, Canada. In a small town called The Pas. In 1976 he began working as a tech and parts man (in small shops you do it all) in 1985 he opened a small repair shop of his own, two years later he became one of the dealer principals in a local dealership and 6 ish years later he moved his family west to Medicine Hat where for 17 years he ran the service and later parts and service departments of Medicine Hat Motosports. While working there he opened Toph Restorations at home in his spare time as the need for obsolete parts and specialized machine work became greater. In 2011 Kelly decided to semi retire and work exclusively from home. The machines on these pages are some of the completed projects that have occupied the years since then. Kelly, who is an avid Bluegrass musician and organizer (www.thursdaynitebluegrass.ca) also manufactures a series of instrument capos of his own design as well as a small line of shaving equipment still in it’s infancy. In 2015 he added a small CNC Mill and a Vapour Hone / Aqua Blaster to the already long list of services available. Delivering top quality finished products that are almost all done in house is what makes this business different. Whether it’s a simple bushing or a complicated component that is unobtanium they all get the same care and attention. To Quote: "we specialize in small components If it doesn't fit in a 1 ft square box I don't want to see it" an exaggeration to be sure but you get the point.

The Bike in the picture.

This is Kelly's 1973 R75/5. Kelly has owned this bike for just shy of 25 years, He got it at 56000 miles and it currently has 104,000 miles during that time it has had "some " upgrades. The S type fairing is believed to be made by Wixom. It is a /5 fairing with the cutout for the signal indicator lamp and the ignition switch and interestingly the R90S dash and wind screen are a direct bolt on.
